Rozhodujme společně – civic slate no. 6 for Prague 1

The Rozhodujme společně slate, ballot number 6 – “One for all, all for Prague One!” (banner text in Czech)

Elections to the Prague 1 municipal council ·
Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October 2026

Where we came from

The Prague 1 slate is the first to have grown out of a citizens’ assembly – and it wants to bring this way of deciding into the town hall.

We believe that finding common ground through informed discussion is the future of politics. Here is the story of how our slate for the municipal elections came to be.

  1. 01

It began with a citizens’ assembly

The initiative came from below – from the needs of the people of Prague 1, not from a town-hall commission. We organised the assembly in our free time and with our own money.

  2. 02

    The draw was public

    28 Nov 2025 · Václav Havel Library

From the applicants, 100 participants and 2 substitutes were drawn by lot in public – selected so that the group mirrored the Prague 1 district demographically by age, gender and place of residence.

  3. 03

The participants chose the topic themselves

11 Mar and 10–11 Apr 2026 · Tyrš House (Sokol)

It was up to the participants to choose the topic they considered the biggest problem of Prague 1. Through discussion and voting they picked short-term rentals and their impacts as the assembly’s first topic.

  4. 04

    They found agreement across opinions

    12 and 20 May 2026 · Kino 64 U Hradeb

Two meetings with experts ended in a joint resolution. The recommendations gave rise to the petition “Return flats to permanent housing!”.

  5. 05

Then came the question that decided it

During the meetings the participants kept asking: “Will our voice be heard?” For the voice of citizens to carry real weight, someone has to push it through. That is why we are running.

What we want to push through

The three pillars of our programme

  1. 1
Ban short-term tourist accommodation in flats

Central Prague has over 13,000 Airbnb-style short-term rental listings, many of them illegal. The Prague 1 authority has the power to shut those operations down. Flats are for permanent housing and must not run as Airbnbs. What are rules for if nobody enforces them? We will enforce them!

Pillar 1: Prague 1 is losing its housing stock →
  2. 2
A resident of Prague 1 matters more than a visitor

It is absurd for Prague 1 to function as a mere stage set for tourists. Cleaning, safety, night-time quiet and parking must be handled by the town hall first and foremost for us – the people who live here. We want streets that are passable and accessible for everyone – for pedestrians, for prams, and for people with limited mobility.

Pillar 3: The tourist comes before the resident →
  3. 3
Decisions of citizens must be respected

The town hall must listen to its citizens and let them take part in decisions about our district. We will change that! Citizens’ assemblies will take place regularly, open to every one of you. The town hall will no longer hide from its residents. We will deal with your suggestions instead of ignoring them!

Pillar 2: Nobody asks the residents for their opinion →

The whole programme – three pillars, the numbers and the sources →

And how it will work from here

Citizens’ assemblies twice a year as a permanent tool of the town hall. Residents of Prague 1 drawn by lot will discuss the given problem with experts and look for solutions. Politicians will take a public stand on the proposed solution; where it is within their powers they will implement it, and where it is not, they will lobby for it. The town hall will keep the public informed about the progress.

Why we are doing this

We organised the citizens’ assemblies in Prague 1 without any commission or help from the town hall, without money from its budget – purely at our own expense. The applicants were grouped by place of residence, gender and age, and from them one hundred participants were drawn by lot. That is why the tables were not filled with the loudest voices, but with a “demographic sample” of our district.

The participants chose the topic themselves, through discussion and voting. They named short-term rentals the most pressing problem. Experts first informed us about the possible solutions, and only then did we agree on recommendations, which we addressed to the competent authorities.

But then we hit a wall that recommendations alone cannot break through – someone has to bring them to life, someone has to push them through. That is why we are running. Not to decide for you, but to push through, together with you, what is best for us, the people of Prague 1, within the limits of what is possible.

There are 26 of us

The slate grew from people who met at the citizens’ assemblies, and from those who joined them. They are not professional politicians – they are neighbours who live or work here.

The citizens’ assemblies are a non-political platform. The slate grew out of them, but does not speak for them.
